Widespread
poverty covers Romania like a gray cloud. After decades of Communist
dictatorship their economy struggles to catch up to the rest of
the developed world. Federal funding for social programs such as
orphan care, became nearly nonexistent. There are 25 orphanages
with over 2,000 children trying to survive in Timis county alone.
Contaminated water also plagues many communities around the country.
Our sponsored programs are giving Romanians of all ages the opportunity
to lead a healthier and more prosperous life by:
- Providing Relief -- We help bring aid to those
who are victims of disaster and poverty.
a. Elderly Care: Tens of thousands of elderly men and women try
to exist on less than $40 every month. We partner with local churches
and businesses in serving free hot meals to the hungry in several
soup kitchens on Monday-Friday. Seniors can also come to us for
emergency supplies including blankets, toiletries, over-the-counter
medicines and clothing.
b. Family Care: Unemployment and small harvests leave many rural
families struggling to make ends meet. Our shipments of food,
clothing and other essentials give them the help and hope needed
to keep families together and children alive.
- Equipping for Life --We assist the poor in
overcoming forces that keep them in the vicious cycle of poverty.
a. Child Welfare: Countless orphans and children living in poor
households live in horrible circumstances, are malnourished, and
are unable to attend school. We provide them with nutritious food,
toiletries, clothing, toys, medicines, medical care and educational
supplies as well as give the essential life skills through summer
vocational programs.
b. Living Waters: Many orphanages have old dry wells. The children have to collect
rain water. Poor towns and villages have only shallow water supplies contaminated
by pesticides and other chemicals. The Living Waters program has made the dream
of clean water a reality to thousands of Romanians.

Samuel’s
family lived in a village 20 km away from our outreach center in Timisoara,
Romania. The 18-year-old’s parents struggled to provide basic food,
clothing and shelter for their fifteen children as well as pay school
fees for ten of them. They only made $200 every month by selling milk
from their three cows. A few pigs and hens in the yard ensured that the
family did not starve.
