A Big Brother’s Compassionate Wish in China

Little Zhu was walking to school one morning when a bundle caught his eye. The Chinese boy opened it and was surprised to find a dirty baby girl with a cleft lip. Zhu immediately ran back home and told his mother about the abandoned baby. Breathless and sobbing, he begged his mother to bring the baby home. “If we leave her alone, she will die!” Zhu pleaded. “I’ll make enough money to give her a surgery after I graduate from college if we cannot afford it now.” Touched by the baby’s heartbreaking condition and her son’s emotional pleas, Mrs. Zhu quickly went out and carried the baby home.

The Zhu family adored their new baby and named her Haixia. But the family’s finances were already tight and now they had another mouth to feed. They didn’t know how they would ever be able to afford cleft lip surgery for their daughter.

Several years passed. Mr. and Mrs. Zhu became excited when they heard Operation Blessing China was sponsoring cleft lip and palate surgeries! Their application was accepted and assigned a surgery date. Following the successful operation, Mr. Zhu expressed his gratitude and joy, “My daughter is doing so well now. She will start school next year. We are so grateful for your help. You have provided us with hope and strength and given my daughter an opportunity to live a normal life.”

So many Chinese children and adults like the Zhu family are grateful for our humanitarian programs in China. Parents would have had no choice but to see their children suffer needlessly.

Chen’s mother would have never been able to afford the numerous surgeries it took to treat her son’s severely burned body. Arrangements were made for Chen to have this life-saving care in the US. After he went back home healthy, we also helped him with a Back-to-School scholarship. Chen’s mother said, “Thanks Operation Blessing! God bless you!”

“On behalf of the half million residents of Dunhua, I thank you for helping our poor villagers in Jianxin,” said Mr. Yiwu Ma, deputy major of the Dunhua city government. OB China dug forty-eight deep clean water wells for the village.

This is just a sampling of how you are helping us assist the poor and hurting in China and around the world. Please send a generous gift today.
