Restoring the Broken in Ukraine
What would happen if you broke your leg? In the USA, we are able
to see a doctor right away and receive the medical attention needed for
a speedy recovery. This is not what happened for Anna.
Anna broke her leg two years ago. The middle aged woman
didn’t have money to pay for medical care. This forced her to suffer
a great deal of pain as the bones grew back together abnormally. She walked
with a limp and great discomfort. Last December, Anna’s situation
unexpectedly changed for the better!
While many of us were opening Christmas gifts on December 25th, a group
of 12 volunteer medical personnel representing Operation Blessing began
their trip from Kiev, Ukraine to Lutsk. In a city that meant “luck”,
many of its’ population of almost 217,000 live in poverty where
free health care does not exist. For three days this small team worked
long hours to see 600 patients. It was common to hear stories of those
suffering with their pain and no hope for help. Most were over 60 years
old, had numerous ailments and had been abandoned by their own children.
It came turn for Anna to see the doctor. After the consultation, one
of the surgeons reset her leg. After some healing, her limp will disappear
and she can expect to walk normally and without pain from now on. Anna
expressed, “Thank you that you make such a medical mission and that
there are such good doctors.”
Others like Nekrakhova received medical attention too. After seeing a
surgeon, gynecologist, dermatologist and therapist as well as having an
electrocardiogram, ultrasound and her back adjusted, she joyfully said,
“Let God bless you! My great gratitude [goes] to the doctors.”
Operation Blessing is continuing to treat the sick in Ukraine this year!
In January alone, 150 people received free medical services in Kiev. Hundreds
more will also be treated during five upcoming medical missions in various
regions of Ukraine.
