Hot Soup Warms the Elderly in Ukraine

Catalog.
Ukraine’s cruelly cold winters are the least of Anna’s worries. At 90 years
old, this brave woman cares and provides for her epileptic son. Anna’s small pension
check isn’t enough to pay rent and buy even the simplest of food for the both
of them; so every day she walks the streets looking for ten empty glass bottles to turn
in for a few coins. As time goes by, even this simple task has become more difficult.
Much to her relief Anna was invited to Operation Blessing’s
soup kitchen a few months ago. No matter what the weather is like, she and more than 100 impoverished
pensioners walk every day to the soup kitchen with great expectations. They are served a meal
of hot soup, meat, tea and bread. Since she began coming to the soup kitchen, both Anna and her
son don’t have to worry about going hungry anymore.
Galina and her husband are also guests at our soup kitchen. They have been coming for three months.
Her husband had a stroke a while ago, taking with it his ability to do even the smallest of jobs.
The couple is so poor that they are forced to share a 2-room apartment with eleven people! A 2-room
apartment doesn’t mean 2-bedrooms. Typically it consists of a small kitchen, bathroom, bedroom,
and living room. This couple is very grateful for the soup kitchen!
