Kentucky Grandparents are Thankful for Groceries
Retirees
JR and his wife Wanda are rearing their two grandsons. At nine and thirteen, these growing
boys have healthy appetites. But lately the couple’s financial resources have
been shrinking. They didn’t know how they could continue to provide nutritious
meals until they received assistance from an Operation Blessing partner. You can help
feed hungry Americans by choosing Gift #1 in the Holiday Catalog!
When JR needed surgery, the family really had to cut corners. To make matters worse, JR’s
social security check was cut when Medicare premiums increased. There were no more corners to
cut off of their budget. Desperate, Wanda went to In His Steps ministry for help.
Located in Murray, Kentucky, In His Steps is one of our ministry partners. Leaders Bob
and Allison Howorka filled Wanda’s trunk with bags of groceries and hygiene items. This
act of kindness freed up enough money to pay for gas and medical bills. JR commented, “It
was a God-send to have some help when it was really needed until things got better for us.”
Every month, 5,500-6,000 hungry people receive groceries from In His Steps. Operation
Blessing delivers truck loads of food to them. Bill and Allison’s team of volunteers then
distribute it throughout their network of 15-20 organizations located in western Kentucky and
Tennessee. They also give groceries to families during a weekly food distribution. “We are
certainly grateful for everything that OBI does for us,” expressed Allison.

Hungry Americans |

It doesn’t get any easier for hungry individuals and families to eat during the holiday
season. Those who are unemployment or who work for low wages struggle to put food on their
tables every day. As a result, more people turn to us for assistance during the holiday
season.
Your gift of $50 can help us feed two families for a month!
