OBI and Ravens Feed Baltimore’s Hungry

Last Saturday hundreds of hungry families living in Baltimore's Park Heights experienced neighborly love. Twenty-one Baltimore Ravens players as well as volunteers from Safeway, M&T Bank, UPS, Heaven 600 and Mayor O'Malley's office joined us in making sure that over 2,000 grocery bags were filled with free food and given to the hungry.

Elena was one of our grateful guests. This single mother of five children has struggled to stay off of welfare. Elena works full time at Yellow Transportation, but still makes daily trips to the grocery store to make sure she only buys items the family really requires. Ranging in from age 5 through 19, all of the kids have different needs, but Elena doesn't have family nearby to help out. It's all up to her.

When Elena found the flier for our food distribution on her car, she hoped there would be enough for them. On Saturday morning she and daughter Keesha stood in the long line of excited guests. Soon the two were holding several bags containing perishable and nonperishable goods. Keesha also received a special kids' bag filled with fun items. The happy mom went to get the car as Keesha sat by their new found wealth. She knew there would be something good for dinner that night!

$25 is all it takes to help provide a family of four with a month’s worth of food.
You can help some of the 31 million hungry Americans who can't afford to buy groceries!
