Feeding The Island
Juan works at a
local New York bagel deli. His wife Maria spends her weekdays in a factory.
When arriving home all the couple wants to do is make dinner for their four
school-age boys and collapse onto the couch. But Juan and Maria can’t
relax. They don’t make enough to cover the family’s basic needs
no matter how hard they try. Will this Long Island family make it?
Last year the Noah’s Ark
outreach ministry of Full Gospel Christian Church found out about Juan's
and Maria's need. The family soon began to receive monthly food and utility
assistance as well as hygiene items, clothing and over-the-counter medicine.
Grateful for the help his family is getting, Juan volunteers any extra time
he has to pick up donated products. A part of our food distribution network,
Noah’s Ark is able to provide nutritious food, drinks, soap, toothpaste,
and toothbrushes to approximately 140 people like Juan and Maria every month.
A lady named Camille is in charge of organizing Noah’s Ark activities.
She knows first-hand what it is to be hungry. Years ago her husband left
her and their two children. With support, Camille became a secretary and
was able to provide for her family. For the last four years, she has volunteered
at least ten hours every week after working full-time. Throughout the week,
Camille and six helpers deliver food and other needed items to two community
homeless shelters and one women’s domestic abuse shelter. They also
help single-parent families and the elderly through a food pantry located
at Full Gospel Christian Church.
Each one of us can do something to end hunger, and together we can have
an evengreater impact. Please join us in working to end hunger in America.
Your gift of $25 or more can deliver much needed food through our nationwide
network as we work for a day when no child will go to bed hungry.
