Seven: A New York Family’s Perfect Number

Christmas morning was filled with squeals of glee as Roberta’s seven children saw presents waiting for them. The middle-aged widow was grateful for our partner the Crisis Pregnancy of New York in Staten Island. Without their listening ears and compassionate hearts her children wouldn’t have had gifts to open. More importantly, her family would have been missing two children.

Roberta will never forget the day her husband and the family’s provider suddenly died of a massive stroke. She was pregnant with twin boys and caring for their five children who all were under the age of five. In the midst of the family’s grief, the financial situation went from bad to worse. In order to feed the little ones, Roberta finally had no choice but to receive public assistance.

In her eight month of pregnancy, she contacted the Crisis Pregnancy of New York. She had no hope of being able to provide for her children, and was contemplating having an abortion. Loving staff counseled the distraught woman. Roberta decided to give birth to the twins, knowing she was not alone.

Last holiday season, the Crisis Pregnancy Center chose seven of their neediest clients to participate in our Holiday of Hope program. Roberta received a gift certificate good to buy toys for her children as well as formula, diapers and food. She was so excited!

During Holiday of Hope 2003, our Metro New York outreach center helped 67,889 people like Roberta’s family! With your help, center leader Jim Esposito’s dedicated network of ministries brought holiday joy to homeless individuals and families, senior citizens and youth as well as children and veterans. Thank you!

Share the joy all year long!
You can spread joy around the world by making a generous year-end gift. You can help people living in homelessness, prisoner's families, the mentally ill, teens in crisis, orphans, the blind, victims of domestic violence as well as the elderly and shut-ins. You’ll be glad now – and on April 15th.
