Giving Single Moms a Christmas to Celebrate
Sherry didn’t know what she was going to do. Christmas was coming quickly
and she was out of work, recovering from a recent car accident. Normally, the single mother, three
children, one nephew and two nieces lived paycheck to paycheck. It looked like there wouldn’t
be any presents or Christmas dinner for this Florida family. Desperate for the kids to have something,
Sherry called Operation Blessing partner, Taking It to the Streets.
Based in St. Petersburg, staff from Taking It to the Streets quickly responded to Sherry by showing
up on her doorstep. They brought in presents for everyone and groceries for Christmas dinner! “Thanks
to you, all of the kids had a wonderful Christmas,” said a grateful mother. Sherry prays that
she will be in a position to give to the needy this year as a way of showing her gratitude to God
for what she received last year.
Thanks to a grant from Operation Blessing, Taking It to the Streets didn’t have to turn
down one family needing holiday assistance last year. They gave items including over 2,000 gifts,
Christmas trees, decorations and meals to the area’s homeless and working poor -- people
like Cindy.
A Single Mother’s Letter
Cindy is alone and has four children to provide for. Even though she has a job, it doesn’t
provide beyond her basic needs so a Christmas celebration with presents was impossible. After
receiving groceries and presents for her family, the happy mother wrote a letter saying, “Thank
you all for blessing my family with gifts and a Christmas dinner. I thought our Christmas would
be bleak, but you all arrived with gifts for all of the kids and food. On Christmas day my children
were smiling. We sat down to a beautiful meal and truly gave thanks and knew what Christmas was
really about. I’m so grateful to you all.”
These mothers and their children are among the hundreds of thousands of people that Operation
Blessing partners are helping during the holidays. And you can help us help them! Your online
gift of $50 or more can provide two poor families in the US with enough groceries this holiday
month. Or a $50 donation can make sure a Christmas toy and clothes reach five orphans living around
the world.
