OBI builds new roofs for typhoon-damaged homes
After Typhoon Milenyo struck Vietnam in October, Operation Blessing began relief efforts in the local villages of Hoa Minh and Hoa Hai.

VIETNAM - Reeling in the aftermath of Typhoon Mileyno, thousands of villagers in central Vietnam were left with devastated homes and the promise of more rain with the arrival of the country's annual monsoon season.
After Typhoon Milenyo struck central Vietnam in early October, Operation Blessing immediately began relief efforts in the hardest-hit areas, including two local villages, Hoa Minh and Hoa Hai. Some 1,400 homes in these communities were destroyed by the typhoon, and over 3,000 roofs blown off by the fierce, 92-mph winds.
With more intense storms and rainfall slated to hit the region during monsoon season, it became critical for villagers to repair and protect their homes against further damage.
Operation Blessing responded by purchasing and installing metal roofing on homes and churches in affected communities. Local families, many with young children who are especially susceptible to sickness, would have otherwise had to resort to scavenging for scrap metal to protect themselves from the elements.
"We will continue to be a blessing to the many victims of the storm," said Bob Huff, an Operation Blessing representative in Vietnam. "We are providing shelter from the storm for many that have lost their homes or roofs, which are needed so badly at this time of year in Vietnam."
In the week following Milenyo's landfall, Operation Blessing also located thirty-five families, some 200 people, who were taking refuge in an abandoned military building after their homes were destroyed in the typhoon. OBI provided each of the families with food and supplies, including soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste, milk, rice, a case of dried noodles, and oil for cooking.
Prior to making landfall in Vietnam, Mileyno also struck the Philippines, prompting flash floods and landslides, obliterating homes, toppling trees, and leaving countless areas without power. Thousands of people were displaced while the death toll rose to more than 100. OBI launched a massive relief and rehabilitation program, providing food, medicine, housing, and livelihood grants to more than 1,500 families.
