Romania Flood Relief Lends Essential Supplies
Water distribution has been an integral part of OBI’s relief efforts.
Floodwaters covered thousands of acres of land.
Thousands of Romanians lost their homes, just like this elderly couple.

Romania – The worst flooding in 50 years forced thousands of Romanians
from their homes in early May. Entire communities were swamped by steadily
rising waters, and roads and railways were rendered impassable.
Contaminated water wells throughout the affected area also left evacuees without drinkable water.
Operation Blessing volunteers and staff responded to the situation immediately, providing clean water, rice, blankets and clothing to more than 3,000 Romanians.
Even now, as floodwaters remain covering thousands of acres of land, OBI teams continue supporting those in need with disaster relief services. Water distribution efforts are ongoing, and Operation Blessing staff members are also helping clean contaminated wells to make the water potable again.
With damage estimates nearing $600 million, rebuilding efforts have stagnated due to both escalating costs and lingering floodwaters.
Home reconstruction sponsored by the Romanian government is scheduled to begin June 20 but the situation remains tenuous, as landslides and rainfall continue to hinder the recovery process.
