Building
Homes for Indonesian Tsunami Families
Nazir thought his eyes were playing tricks on him as the tsunami’s waves crushed
his small house. Six years of saving a little money at a time and dreaming of owning a
home was swept away in minutes. Powerless against the surging water, Nazir’s family
fled to safety.
Three months passed and life slowly took on a new kind of normalcy. But Nazir’s
family longed to go home – to a home that no longer existed. “To own a house
was my dream since a long time ago,” shared Nazir. “I only desired one thing
at that time, to return to my home.”
Dreams Come True
Operation Blessing Indonesia has helped to make Nazir’s dream become a reality.
Working with Samaritan's Purse and Habitat for Humanity, we have committed to build
over 2,000 small homes for tsunami families living in Banda Aceh, Lhoong, Lhak Kruet,
Rigah, Kevde Patek, Panga and Meulaboh. Recently the concrete was laid for Nazir’s
new house and now it is almost time to move in!
Rebuilding Lives
This family is one of thousands whose lives have been turned upside down.
Everyone knows someone who died in the tsunami. Operation Blessing’s
partners have enabled our medical and recovery teams to care for the injured
and sick as well as bring emergency supplies to tens of thousands of tsunami
survivors! Thanks to you, they can feel flickers of hope in the midst
of their despair. Your active concern is not only allowing people like
Nazirhave a home again, but to return to work through our boat building
and other micro-enterprise projects.
We are not finished helping tsunami survivors in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand or
India! Please continue to join our team as we assist these brave people in their time
of need.
