ALMATY CITY, Kazakhstan - Underprivileged children in Kazakhstan now have the chance to explore the world – all thanks to a few computers.
Last month, Operation Blessing's Orphan's Promise held a first-ever computer class in the city of Almaty, Kazakhstan, as part of their "School of Life" project – a life skills-based program reaching out to underprivileged and orphaned children.
The class is located in a building recently renovated and furnished by local partner and school, the Palace of Children's Creativity.
"This is the only computer class in the city that is located out of a school," said Beydalee Makhambett, a local government leader in the Turkibsk area of the city. "The children from lower income families and orphans now have the possibility to learn some new computer skills. It is a good contribution to the future of these children."
Orphan's Promise purchased five computers, a scanner and a printer to help students learn valuable skills and access to information from around the world.
Ryabko Nataliya, director of the Palace of Children's Creativity, says children are signed up for the computer classes for the next six months
"For most of these children this is a very big help that gives them a chance to get knowledge they need today and will need in the future," Nataliya said. "We are sincerely happy to be the first to have such a class."
