"House of Blessing" rescues orphaned children

House of Blessing in Thailand provides housing, food, medical care and more to children like Gonika and Chatraporn, above.

"She is a happy, entertaining child who loves to dance," said staff members of Im, a rescued two-year-old whose mother tried to sell her into slavery.

By Sarah Pate and John Patrick DOI SAKET, Thailand - For 105 children, OBI's House of Blessing is more than just an orphanage – it's a second chance at life.
One year ago, 11-year-old Gonika and her 9-year-old sister Chatraporn watched as police searched their home for their mother and father, wanted on charges of drug trafficking.
After their parents were arrested and sentenced to 45 years in prison, the two sisters were taken in by House of Blessing, who for the last 14 years has been providing housing, food, school education fees, uniforms, medical care, counseling services and more to orphaned and underprivileged children in Thailand.
"I have so many friends and lots of love," Gonika said. "Mother Jip and Father Rachan [house parents and directors of HOB] take such good care of us."
Baby Im, 2, is another resident of House of Blessing and fortunate to be alive. After several failed attempts to abort her, Im's mother made plans to sell her into slavery for $75 USD.
Fortunately, her aunt intervened and brought Im to House of Blessing.
"She is a happy, entertaining child who loves to dance," said HOB staff. "Now she is in a safe and secure environment with a bright future ahead."
In addition to the children's home, House of Blessing also runs a microenterprise sewing center for young, at-risk girls as well as a "Babies Home" to care for abandoned infants.
Thanks to the generosity of donors, OBI has been providing monthly financial support to HOB since 1999 which helps fund their feeding programs, educational expenses, well projects and more.
"We are so pleased to partner with HOB," said Karen Thomson, director of Operation Blessing Thailand, "and help be a channel of blessing into these young lives."
