Tampa Bay Kids Get Ready for School
“I just couldn’t afford school supplies,” cried
Turina. The distraught mother of three and her husband were already financially
stretched to pay basic electric, rent, phone, and food bills. Now it was
late in July; the first day of classes was quickly approaching.
“Mommy, are we gonna go get school supplies?” asked Turina’s
little daughter. Her mother had been avoiding that question for a while.
But now the Florida woman could look into those big eyes and say, “Yes!”
Turina had just been invited to bring her children to an outreach event planned by our partner Somebody Cares
Tampa Bay.
While picking up backpacks filled with supplies and watching the kids
have fun in the carnival type atmosphere, Turina exclaimed, “Thank
you so much--you don't know how much this means to me!”
July 31st was indeed a fun-filled Saturday. Thousands of children living
in poverty were given a new backpack filled with supplies at five different
locations in the area. Depending on the event, free activities included
a baseball game, movie, moon walks, face painting and games as well as
food. And that’s not all! Throughout the summer, an amazing 23,000
boys and girls received backpacks and supplies! Now they are armed with
everything they need. With your help, thousands of kids will feel like
they fit in with their peers.
