Even though areas of Isaan have access to electricity, indoor plumbing and a basic infrastructure, finding water sources remains a key problem.

ISAAN, Thailand – Residents in the north east section of Isaan no longer have to look to the weather to provide them with access to water sources.

The region’s population, which is estimated around 25 million, represents about one third of Thailand.

Even though the area has access to electricity, indoor plumbing and a basic infrastructure, finding water sources remains a key problem.

Since January 2008, 31 wells have been commissioned thanks to Operation Blessing’s Water Wells and Cisterns program.

"The lives and livelihoods of these people rely on a consistent supply of fresh, clean water," said an OBI representative in Thailand.

Since January 2008, 31 wells have been commissioned thanks to Operation Blessing’s Water Wells and Cisterns program.

Nuu Dang Yortchai, an elderly woman who lives in a remote village says she is thankful for the new well in her village.

"In the past it was so difficult for us because we had to travel all the way to the next village if we wanted drinking water," she said. "We had to bathe in a filthy pond that had very little water because there was nowhere else to wash."

Nuu added, "Now that we have this well, our lives are much better."

Since 2000, a total of 261 wells have been constructed throughout Thailand, providing more than 75,000 villagers with access to fresh clean water.
