| Band members of Hillsong United encouraged concert attendees to support OB Peru's national food drive by bringing a kilo of non-perishable food items to the concert. |
PERU– They called it their “kilo of love” project.
As part of their South American tour, Hillsong United, a musical group from Hillsong Church in Australia, held their first-ever concert in Peru with more than 16,000 people in attendance.
But for Joel Houston, the band’s leader, the concert wasn’t just about entertaining—it was also about helping others.
“Joel wanted to do a kilo of love and basically have everyone bring in a kilo of non-perishable food items such as rice, beans, etc., to bless the community,” said Taylor Barriger, a coordinator for the event.
“So people won’t come [to the concert] just to receive something, but to give from their hearts as well and bless this nation,” he added.

Operation Blessing Peru set up two 20-foot trucks at the concert entrance to collect food donations which will later be distributed with the First Lady of Peru, Pilar Nores de Garcia, to impoverished families living in the Andean Mountain region.
As the official humanitarian sponsor for the event, OB Peru was also given the opportunity to show a video during the concert and share about their country-wide efforts to help alleviate poverty and suffering through hunger relief programs, clean water projects, anti-parasite campaigns and more.
