ATLANTA - In just six months, Rosa has lost her home for the second time.

Rosa, her husband Alberto, and their 11-year-old daughter Marian have been renting a basement apartment after their home was foreclosed on earlier this year.

Now, they’ve lost their home again, this time to 5 feet of floodwater.

Heavy rains in Atlanta dumped nearly 22 inches of rain in the Greater Atlanta Metropolitan and surrounding areas, shutting down roads and bridges as well as forcing many families from their homes.

The flooding destroyed everything in Rosa’s home: clothes, furniture, food— and even more critical, Rosa’s supply of insulin.

When Operation Blessing met Rosa at an emergency food distribution, she had already gone 3 days without medicine and was facing a potentially life-threatening situation if she didn’t get help soon.

Thanks to the support of Operation Blessing partners, teams were able to help Rosa purchase a 4-month supply of insulin as well as clothes for her daughter and food for her family.

Volunteers have also begun gutting their home—along with several other homes in Rosa’s neighborhood— to help start the recovery process for affected families.

Operation Blessing is currently accepting volunteer teams of 2 or more to help residents clean out their flood-damaged homes in the Atlanta area. OBI will provide food, lodging and work coordination. Volunteers are responsible for transportation to and from the work sites.
