BIHAR, India - South Asia's monsoon season has created the region's worst flooding in 50 years, displacing more than 3 million people.
To make matters worse, the Kosi River overflowed and burst a dam in neighboring Nepal last month, drenching village after village in its path.
Evacuation attempts failed leaving millions to fend for themselves.
About 4,500 people are missing in Bihar alone. The floodwaters are not only claiming lives but drenching farmland and destroying houses in its wake.
"For the survivors in Bihar, the hardship has just begun," said David Darg, deputy director of international programs with Operation Blessing. "Those who made it to temporary shelters have to share space with thousands of others where they're at risk from water-borne diseases like diarrhea as well as contagious measles."
OB India has responded to the health challenge by setting up emergency clinics. Partnering with Nav Bharat Mission, medical missions are reaching some of the hardest hit areas.
In addition, basic medication and health education is being provided in temporary camps to help reduce the risk of diseases among those displaced by the floods.

Rishi was in dire need when he brought his 6-month-old son to one of the clinics. Kumar was suffering from acute diarrhea and vomiting. He was given medication, and in less than 24 hours, Kumar was on the road to recovery.
"Thank you for saving my child's life," Rishi said. OBI also gave his family a relief packet containing essential items such as food and soap.
More than 200 families had small rooms constructed to live in until more help arrives. A community kitchen provides for food for the families and OBI is supplying the food rations, medicines and medical services as well.
OBI medical personnel are also providing specialty treatment for pregnant mothers
"Aid efforts remain hampered by limited access to more than 1,800 impacted villages across 16 districts in Bihar State," Darg said. "We are committed to staying here and helping these people in their time of need."
